Default ATTN: Gaile - Griefers Ruining the Event

People are grabbing the gift and hiding behind storage in L.A. , thus preventing grenchies from getting it , and preventing gifts from spawning.
This was a problem last year and those doing it should recieve some kind of ban for this intentional exploiting/griefing.

Person doing it was kind enough to allow me to post this:

Present Hunt

This is a mini-game played in Lion's Arch and Kamadan, Jewel of Istan. Periodically a present will randomly spawned.

Players must quickly pick up the present and deliver it to one of the Young Children in town before any of the Grentches reach the present and destroy it. Grentches could also destroy presents held by players if they come within adjacent range. When a present spawns the Grentches would run all the way to the spawn point before chasing someone who had picked it up.

Note that Grentches move much faster than players, however if you use a Sugar Rush sweet item, you can easily outrun them.

In return, the child would hand the player a Candy Cane Shard or, if the present is handed to Scrappy Jhim in Lion's Arch, a Winter Gift which will unwrap into a random Wintersday collectable item.

Same thing in Kamadan, except they hide in the cage.

Wow, people really find some creative ways to screw with everyone's fun, don't they?

It's annoying, but I'd recommend just switching districts if you're that pumped about the gift game. Of course, now that you've posted it on Guru, we're probably going to see an explosion of me-toos griefing LA now, kinda like the permapre kidnapping thing earlier this year. XD

This was happening last year, too. Actually, when they didn't start the present hunt this year for awhile, I thought perhaps Anet had eliminated it precisely because of this sort of thing. Ah well.

The short version is, they don't appear to care. The rewards for present hunting are dismal in comparison to the frustration it generates, I suggest hunting candy cane shards for your gift acquisition needs. Leave the pathetic little griefers to their petty idiocy.

I will check with Support about this. It's not a "bannable" offense, I'm sure, but I imagine that the Support Team guys will say that griefing another player, or group of players, could earn someone a few days in the penalty box, that is, a minor block on their account.

I think the players doing this are being unkind and foolish, and let's be honest, no one is doing this "accidentally." Therefore, Support would be entirely likely to see the intention as a desire to reduce other peoples' ability to have fun, perhaps a form of harassment or abuse. That means that those players who are bringing the in-town game to a screeching halt could have their account actioned. And if that happens today, they would miss the Wintersday finale.

So I would suggest, with all good intentions, that if you're doing this, you should stop it. And if you're not doing it, please don't start.

Oh come on now...you'd bother support (and take them away from real issues) just because some people can't get some lame ass presents?

Simple district switch = problem resolved

Yes but it's ruining someone's game!! You wouldn't want that to happen to your game would you?!

Instead have your devs look into making this game more fun Gaile or hell finish up Guild Wars 2 faster, do something so I don't cry from boredom when I look at the Guild Wars shortcut on my desktop.

It's crying over a non-issue, but what ever floats your boat.

But seriously, come on now. Your game is ruined from your inability to move up one district?

You're right. People could change districts. Unless they didn't choose to, or unless this became so widespread that the mini-games were virtually closed down by people griefing. So the question is, should (an innocent) someone be inconvenienced and told that he/she should deal with it, because (a guilty) someone else is being rude? If so, where does that stop? "If you don't like the racism, leave the district?" "If you don't want me to leech, find another team?" What if someone found a way to stand in front of a gate and stop a PvP match from starting? Should our answer be, "Oh, just start over," or "Find another party?"

It's fair to set expectations for appropriate behavior towards one another. I've asked the Support leads -- they'll let me know. After that, team members who are in the games doing other things can monitor and react to this griefing, as well, if a reaction is deemed appropriate.
